New Adult Dystopian Fantasy Writer
James Edgar Skye
James Edgar Skye is a writing coach, nonfiction ghostwriter, and new adult speculative fiction writer of the novella Angel on the Ward. James has eleven years of experience in ghostwriting nonfiction as a fiction writing coach and six years of writing fiction. His latest novel is entitled Rise of the Nephilim. It takes the reader on a dystopian fantasy journey with intense world-building and characters. His biggest writer influences are Edgar Allan Poe, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Tolkien, George R.R. Martin, and Margaret Atwood.
James worked out of his home in Salinas, California, the same town where John Steinbeck wrote his novels and called that place home for most of his life. Steinbeck’s influence in writing about the beautiful Salinas Valley inspired him to write books about his hometown which grew into a love for speculative fiction. James plans to teach English in South Korea in late 2023 because he wants to travel to one of his favorite places, and teaching will allow him to live in Korea. His love for Korean food, culture, and music is why South Korea makes the most sense, but it is also a good traveling hub to travel through Asia.
In his free time, he works as a mental health advocate and podcaster on his interview-style podcast, The Bipolar Writer. James was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder, anxiety, and PTSD, and he shared his mental health journey in his memoir The Bipolar Writer: A Memoir in 2020. A mental illness has deeply impacted James’ ability to write complex human characters. He is a very organized writer, and at times his characters deal with the very issues that he struggles with—mental health also gives him great insight into the human spirit as his mental health influences his writing style, and he perseveres through writing fiction.
